From Access Hollywood:
While at the 2009 ALMA Awards, “American Idol” season 7 runner-up David Archuleta weighs in on Ellen DeGeneres becoming the fourth “Idol” judge.
I love Ellen. She’s so cool. She’s so funny. She’s going to add something really interesting to the show that hasn’t been there before because she’s a comedian. She kind of livens things up a bit.

From New York magazine:

Oh, it’s on! Last night, American Idol second-place finisher David Archuleta announced the details of his upcoming Christmas album, Christmas From the Heart, to be released October 13. Which is funny, since Bob Dylan’s similarly titled Christmas in the Heart is set to arrive in stores the exact same day. Archuleta’s CD will include thirteen classic holiday jams angelically intoned over funky urban beats. Dylan’s will feature a crotchety elderly person raspily recounting firsthand memories of Jesus’s birth, backed by accordion. How will consumers discern between these practically identical records? Which legendary music-biz titan will move more units? Will the loser retire in shame? Christmas just got hotter.

From Idol Chatter:
Hope I’m not spoiling the surprise for anyone, but David Archuleta earned best new artist honors at the ALMA awards Thursday night in Los Angeles.
David also performed on the show, which was taped last night but will be aired tonight on ABC at 8 p.m. Two photos of his performance appear below.
The ALMA awards showcase achievements of Latinos in music, television and sports. George Lopez and Eva Longoria Parker were hosts, and performances by Shakira, Nelly Furtado and Pitbull are also supposed to be featured on tonight’s show.
The Associated Press, which provided these photos, also moved pics of the Nelly Furtado and Pitbull performances. But nothing of Shakira, who was scheduled to sing her hit, “She Wolf.”
Congrats to David, Idol’s season seven runner-up.
And I’ll keep this much a secret: the song he performed.
Though you can guess this much from the pics: It wasn’t anything along the lines of “She Wolf.”
